As President of the FIEC, it is for me a great pleasure to welcome all scholars of the Classical World to the XVIIth International Congress of the Fédération Internationale des Associations d’Études Classiques, which will take place in the city of Wrocław, Poland, from 7 to 11 July 2025, organised by the Polish Philological Association and the Institute of Classical, Mediterranean and Oriental Studies of the University of Wrocław.

Let me recall that the FIEC was founded in 1948, thus celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2023, and that it is the only organisation of its kind in global terms, bringing together members from all over the world. Today its membership comprises more than 75 national and international associations dedicated to the study of the Classical World from multiple points of view. FIEC encourages the exchange of experiences and collaboration among all its members, as well as it plays a permanent and essential role in defending and disseminating the classical legacy.

Since its inception, the FIEC has held international congresses, first on a five-yearly basis and, since the XVIth Congress, which was organised online from Mexico in 2022, on a triennial basis. Before Mexico, the last congresses were held in Ouro Preto, Brazil (2004), Berlin (2009), Bordeaux (2014) and London (2019). These congresses bring together several hundred specialists each time and are an extraordinary opportunity to disseminate on an international level the research being carried out by working groups, institutions and individual researchers from all over the world.

On the occasion of the Wrocław congress, FIEC also wishes to place special emphasis on the discussion of the challenges for our studies at the present time in the face of phenomena such as globalisation, digitalisation and the pressure on Humanities studies in all countries.

I therefore encourage all specialists and scholars of the Classical World to participate in this congress which, like all the previous ones, will undoubtedly be an extraordinary opportunity for the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of the incomparable legacy of Greece and Rome.

En tant que président de la FIEC, j’ai le grand plaisir d’accueillir tous les spécialistes du monde classique au Congrès international de la Fédération, qui se tiendra dans la ville de Wrocław, Pologne, du 7 au 11 juillet 2025, organisé par l’Association philologique polonaise et l’Institut des Études Classiques, Méditerranéennes et Orientales de l’Université de Wrocław.

Permettez-moi de rappeler que la FIEC a été fondée en 1948, qu’elle fêtera donc son 75e anniversaire en 2023, et qu’elle est la seule organisation de ce type au niveau mondial, rassemblant des membres du monde entier. Elle compte aujourd’hui plus de 75 associations nationales et internationales qui se consacrent à l’étude du Monde Classique sous de multiples angles. La FIEC encourage l’échange d’expériences et la collaboration entre tous ses membres, ainsi que le maintien d’une attitude permanente de défense et de diffusion de l’héritage classique.

Depuis sa création, la FIEC a tenu des congrès internationaux, d’abord sur une base quinquennale et, depuis le XVIe congrès, qui a été organisé de le Mexique en 2022, sur une base triennale. Auparavant, les derniers congrès se sont tenus à Ouro Preto, au Brésil (2004), à Berlin (2009), à Bordeaux (2014) et à Londres (2019). Ces congrès rassemblent à chaque fois plusieurs centaines de spécialistes et constituent une occasion extraordinaire de diffuser au niveau international les recherches menées par des groupes de travail, des institutions et des chercheurs individuels du monde entier.

A l’occasion du congrès de Wrocław, la FIEC souhaite également mettre un accent particulier sur la discussion des défis auxquels nos études sont confrontées à l’heure actuelle face à des phénomènes tels que la mondialisation, la digitalisation et la pression sur les études en Sciences Humaines dans tous les pays.

J’encourage donc tous les spécialistes et les chercheurs du Monde Classique à participer à ce congrès qui, comme tous les précédents, sera sans aucun doute une extraordinaire opportunité pour l’avancement des connaissances et la diffusion de l’incomparable héritage de la Grèce et de Rome.
